Includes two very interesting songs: The first is Vegetables" a song written by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks for the American rock band the Beach Boys. It was released on their 1967 album Smiley Smile with Al Jardine and Brian Wilson on lead vocals and Paul McCartney providing percussion with celery. A discarded bridge section from "Vega-Tables" was later recycled as the a cappella "Mama Says" on their 1967 album Wild Honey, featuring heavily syncopated vocals by the Beach Boys. During an April session for "Vegetables", the version found on The Smile Sessions, Paul McCartney joined the Beach Boys in the studio. Al Jardine remembers that: "The night before a big tour, I was out in the studio recording the vocal [for "Vegetables"] when, to my surprise, Paul McCartney walked in and joined Brian at the console. And, briefly, the two most influential musical Geminis in the world had a chance to work together. I remember waiting for long periods of time between takes to get to the next section or verse. Brian [seemed to have] lost track of the session. Paul would come on the talkback and say something like "Good take, Al."The other is "War Song" a 1972 single by Neil Young & Graham Nash, backed by The Stray Gators. It was released in support of George McGovern's 1972 presidential campaign, who was running against incumbent President Richard Nixon. Young had already voiced his opinions of Nixon two years prior with "Ohio" while a member of Crosby, Stills & Nash, and once again tried to make an impact with a protest song. Despite his and Nash's intentions, the single failed to make a serious impression. The single itself would soon go out of print. Warner Brothers released the song on their 1974 "Loss Leader" Series album Hard Goods (a promotional series used primarily to promote rock acts on the label at the time). After that, "War Song" would remain unreleased in any other format until June 2009, when it was finally released on CD, DVD, and Blu-ray on a box set by Neil Young called The Archives Vol. 1 19631972.
