Singulière retranscription de cet importante allocution du jour de l an, interdite de diffusion en Zone occupée. On trouve néanmoins quelques insertions, tel que dans Le Petit Havrais. Dumoulin de Laba…rthète s attribue le projet initial rédigé le 18 décembre précédent. Sortant de sa réserve habituelle, Pétain dénonce en termes identiques les gaullistes et les collaborateurs de paris qui se livrent à « d abjectes besognes de désunion ». Mais l intérêt principal tient dans sa conclusion : « Dans l exil partiel auquel je suis astreint, dans la demi-liberté qui m est laissée, j essaie de faire tout mon devoir. Chaque jour, je tente d arracher ce pays à l asphyxie qui le menace, aux troubles qui le guettent. Aidez-moi. » D aucun conclura qu une « demi-liberté » vaut demi-légitimité. et demi-obéissance.
