Because of Fox we have freedom of the screen, won in a memorable court decision which crushed the monopoly of the Motion Pictures Patents Company. At one point Fox owed the banks and the American Telephone and Telegraphy Company one hundred million dollars. He defied the Establishment and battled its lawyers until the wolves of Wall Street chased the exhausted and bankrupt Fox into a Pennsylvania penitentiary, where he was a prisoner for a year and a day.
