Inset: A and I: Stop Press, 7 +[1] pp. Illustrated by 4 colour plates paginated in text and by text figures, some in red, and including wood engravings and facsimiles. The last issue of the periodical Alphabet and Image before it separated into Alphabet (typography) and Image (arts) in 1949 (see the inserted Stop Press). It was edited by Robert Harling (1910-2008), typographer, novelist and journalist, and friend of Ian Fleming, who recruited him to work in the Inter-Service Topographical Department in 1941. Harling had an adventurous wartime career and followed Royal Navy service at Dunkirk and with the Atlantic convoys, by visits abroad to collect enemy data, soon after D-Day.
