First Edition
Spiral Bound. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. A very good copy of the presumed edition (no explicit edition or printing statement). Binding is spiral-bound. The text is wholly unmarked, pristine, and the binding bright and fresh in appearance. 16 pp. A lovely copy.
Softcover. Condition: Near Fine Condition. First Edition. Side stapled pamphlet, slight rusting to staples otherwise fine. Interesting 14pp pamphlet answering whether white bread is healthy or not and whether the process of making white flour has robbed it of it's nutritional value (answer: yes and no). "White bread is a wholesome, nutritious food. Its avoidance for fear of any harmful consequences or the fear that it is the cause of any diseased condition when properly used in the normal diet, is entirely without scientific foundation." Seemingly no copies in OCLC. In the 1920s and 30s there was a widespread panic about white bread (heavily consumed during the depression) stoked by a peripatetic diet guru named Bernard MacFadden who called it the stuff of death. Amylophobia swept the nation and had many of the moral panic and class characteristics of later dietary debates (white vs. whole wheat, gluten, etc.). Size: 16mo. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Cooking, Wine & Dining; Inventory No: CAT000831.

Staplebound. Condition: Very Good. Faint rubbing of spine, pencil mark and erasure on front cover, coffee rings on back. Sounds worse than it is, crisp smooth tight and otherwise as new clean, hard to believe it is over sixty years old. One of the early works in the imminent avalanche of dieting and calorie counting and ideal weight charts. No recipes. The real charm of this 3.3 x 5.25 inch, 30pp booklet is the week's worth of Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner menus with exact measurements of ingredients and its overall vintage graphic layout. Book.
