On piece of pink paper roughly 13.5 x 9.5 cm. Reads: 'Every good wish / Paul Robeson.' No other writing, and the good firm signature with plenty of space around it. In good condition lightly aged, with thin strip of discoloration running through the 'E' of 'Every'. Scan on application.

See his obituary in the Guardian, 5 April 2006. On irregularly-shaped trapezoid of ruled paper, roughly 8 cm wide at top, with one vertical side also 8cm, and the other 4cm, giving it a guillotine shape. Lightly aged and ruckled. Blank on the reverse. Reads: 'Best / always / Gene Pitney'.

On 11 x 17.5 piece of shiny art paper, cut from a programme. The signature 'Paul Robeson' is written across Robeson's front, beneath his smiling face in a black and white photograph. Beneath the photograph is the caption: ' "A voice like his is worth waiting ten years to hear, and an art like his comes once in a generation." / THE TORONTO EVENING TELEGRAM'. On the reverse are part of the lyrics from two songs, the second being 'Short'nin' bread'.

A black and white publicity photograph on an 11 x 15 cm collotype print. Signed at bottom right: 'Yours sincere / Mary Ellis / Feb. 1844'. A head and shoulders portrait of a dreamy-looking Ellis in front of netting, staring downwards to her right, with her head cradled in her right hand, which is clasped by her left. In good condition, lightly aged. Scan on application.

See her entry in the Oxford DNB. The recipient ('Broadley Pasha') was a renowned autograph collector and shady social figure, as well as the de facto editor of Edmund Yates's 'World'. 3pp, 16mo. Bifolium. In good condition, lightly aged, with slight sunning to first page, and traces of mount on blank final page. Folded once. Signed 'Geneviève Ward' (note the accent). The letter relates to the 1889 revival at the London Opera Comique of the role which made her famous, Stephanie, Marquise de Mohrivar, in Merivale and Grove's 1879 play 'Forget Me Not'. Begins: 'Dear Mr Broadley / Have you received your stall for Forgetmenot at the Comique today 3 o'clock? if not may I hope that you will come & I will leave the ticket in an envelope for you at the Box Office.' She points out that he told her that he had not seen the piece, '& I should be so pleased if you will come & see [me] as Stephanie'.

Condition: Very good. - Black-and-white publicity photo, 10 inches high by 8 inches wide. Inscribed and signed at bottom left "To Harry / Best Luck Alw*zs / Frankie Laine". Dated on the verso by the recipient. There are small creases to the bottom corners. Very good. A head-and-shoulders photo of the bearded, broadly smiling singer. Frankie Laine [1913-2007] was an American singer, songwriter and actor whose career spanned 75 years. His hits included "That's My Desire", "That Lucky Old Sun", "Jezebel", "High Noon" and "Rawhide". He played a significant role in the Civil Rights movements of the 1950s and 1960s. When Nat King Cole's television show was unable to find a sponsor, Laine crossed the color line and became the first white artist to appear as a guest, foregoing his normal salary of $10,000. Many other leading white singers followed suit.
