Dentiste cubain formé au New York Dental College et arrivé en France en 1889 pour représenter Cuba au Congrčs Dentaire International de Paris, Amoëdo décida de s'établir, comme praticien et professeur, en France. Il y soutint sa thčse en 1898, ŕ l'âge de 35 ans. En 1897, l'incendie qui eut lieu lors de la vente de l'organisation caritative, le "Bazar de la Charité", provoque la mort de 126 personnes dont de nombreuses dames de milieu aristocratique. Plusieurs d'entre elles purent ętre identifiées par leur dentiste. Ce moyen peu usité d'identification encourage Amoëdo ŕ publier le premier ouvrage moderne traitant d'odontostomatologie médico-légale. Dans ce texte fondateur, l'auteur dresse, aprčs une anatomie dentaire générale, une intéressante classification des pathologies dentaires en fonction des milieux professionnels et sociaux. Louis Oscar Amoëdo y Valdes (1863-1945) war ein kubanischer Arzt und Zahnarzt, der als Vater der modernen forensischen Zahnmedizin gilt. Er besuchte im Jahre 1889 als Mitglied der kubanischen Delegation den Internationalen Zahnärztekongress in Paris, worauf er bis an sein Lebensende in Frankreich verblieb.
