Reparti sur la flûte la « Belle-Angélique », Baudin relâcha successivement à Trinité (séjour abrégé par les Anglais), aux îles danoises et à Porto Rico. Il en rapporta une magnifique et considérable collection botanique (800 plantes vivantes en 350 espèces furent confiées au Jardin des Plantes) et une collection de fossiles géologiques (coquillages, faune et flore). A l?issue d?un voyage très difficile, vingt mois plus tard. En publiant douze années après la relation de son voyage, André-Pierre Ledru (1761-1825), botaniste de l?expédition, fut le seul à porter publiquement un témoignage d?estime, de respect et d?amitié au capitaine Nicolas Baudin".
