Andrejs Egl?tis (1912 - 2006) was a Latvian poet and public figure in exile. Egl?tis (1912?2006) was born in Laudona and educated at a local school and in Riga. He wrote for various Latvian press publications since his early youth. In 1944, he moved to Sweden as a refugee, and in August 1998 he returned to live in Latvia. The author of more than 30 books published in different countries of the world. The main focus of his writing was Latvia, its statehood, nation and language. His poetry intertwines a romantic and patriotic depiction of homeland and the melancholy life of the?Latvian exile and of the Latvian?spirit in?general. Written in exile ?Curse" is Andrejs Egl?tis' eighth collection of poems, published in 1961.
