Edition originale, rare exemplaire en grand papier, type hollande avec filigrane ML Annonay. Cet ouvrage est un de ses deux essais sur la condition féminine. Anna Lampérière est une pédagogue, militante pour le… droit des femmes, sans pour autant pouvoir être qualifiée de féministe au sens actuel. Elle ne recherchait pas l'égalité homme-femme mais une forme d'équité, avec une instruction spécifique pour les femmes. A l'époque, ses idées, ni conservatrices, ni féministes, étaient bien reçus tant par une partie des catholiques que par une partie des républicains. Aujourd'hui, ses idées sont complètement dépassées et ringardisées. Parmi ses idées, citons celle-ci : « droit légitime de la femme sur les ressources du mari » (première partie, chapitre VIII). Elle y développe l'idée que l'activité de la femme au foyer développe une certaine valeur qui lui donne donc un droit sur les revenus de son mari. Toutefois, elle ne définit pas la femme comme uniquement la femme mariée, même s'il s'agit de la « situation normale » : la seconde partie concerne la femme isolé, dans une « situation anormale ». Elle avait donc écrit deux essais sur la femme, l'autre étant Le rôle social de la femme. Il est d'ailleurs amusant de voir que Régine Desforges en possédait un exemplaire dans sa bibliothèque. Demi-chagrin moderne, dos à nerfs, tranchefils cuir, couvertures et dos conservés, tête mouchetée. Restaurations à la couverture (petits manques au dos de la couverture). Rare ouvrage.
