Dopo l'8 settembre entrò nella formazione ligure dei partigiani Garibaldini di Savona. Alla vigilia di Natale del 1943 fu arrestato insieme ad altri patrioti e, dopo il carcere a Cuneo e poi presso il sesto braccio dei politici alle Nuove di Torino, il 13 marzo del 1944 iniziò il viaggio di deportazione verso il campo di concentramento tedesco di Mauthausen, ove approdò il 17 dello stesso mese.
