Add to basketA scarce eighteenth century French theological work forming part of the influential Memoire Chronologiques et Dogmatiques, here Tome Quatrieme, printed in 1739. The work contributes to the broader ecclesiastical and doctrinal debates of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century, particularly surrounding Jansenist controversy and Catholic theological reform. This volume examines events from 1600 to 1716, offering a structured chronological and doctrinal analysis of ecclesiastical developments, reflecting the intellectual and religious tensions of post Reformation Europe. Works of this nature were central to the transmission and interpretation of theological authority, and were widely read among clergy and scholars engaged in doctrinal debate. Of particular note is the clear institutional provenance, with a stamped mark indicating association with a Maryland Episcopal institution, dated nineteenth century. This adds a layer of transatlantic historical significance, demonstrating the movement of European theological texts into American religious and academic collections. The book remains in its original period binding, retaining full structural integrity despite visible wear consistent with age. The boards show significant rubbing and surface loss, with a well worn spine, yet the text block remains sound and complete. The edges are stained red, and the typography remains clear and strong throughout. This is not a decorative copy, but an honest survival example of a working theological text that has passed through centuries of use and institutional ownership.

Scarce Russian émigré publication documenting the atrocities committed by the Austro-Hungarian (Habsburg) authorities against the Galician population during World War I. The first volume, titled Galician Golgotha, presents documentary evidence, eyewitness testimonies, and reports describing the persecution, mass arrests, and internment of Rusyns and Ukrainians in Austrian concentration camps such as Thalerhof and Terezin between 1914 and 1917. Published in the United States by Peter S. Hardy for the Russian émigré community, this edition had a very limited print run (reportedly under 500 copies). Copies are held by only a few major research institutions (Harvard, Yale, Hoover Institution). Black cloth binding with gilt title on cover and spine; original green illustrated dust jacket depicting a barbed chain and scenes of deportation. Clean inte firm binding, minor shelf wear and light ru J to jacket edges. An important and extremely rare documentary source on the wartime repressions of Eastern Slavs under the Habsburg Monarchy.

Engraved allegorical title-page with portrait medallion, allegorical figures, and royal arms of France. (illustrator). A rare early Elzevir āRepublicsā volume, Gallia sive de Francorum regis dominiis et opibus commentarius (1629), providing a compact yet authoritative description of the dominions, wealth, provinces, and noble families of the French crown. This is the first Elzevir edition, preceding the 1639 issue, and among the earliest entries in the publisherās renowned Respublicae series. The engraved allegorical title-page is a highlight: curtains part to reveal a bust portrait of a French nobleman flanked by two classical female figures, with the arms of France displayed below. This emblematic frontispiece, crisp and finely executed, reflects the sophistication of Elzevir engraving at its height. Inside, the text functions as a concise political geography and genealogical handbook. It surveys the provinces of France, lists its great noble families (such as the dāAlbrets, La Rochefoucaulds, dāEtampes, and others), and records the wealth and dominion of the Bourbon monarchy. For diplomats, scholars, and statesmen of the 17th century, such a portable reference was indispensable, part of the wider European appetite for systematic surveys of states that foreshadowed modern political science. The binding, in original limp vellum, is remarkably well-preserved, with clean vellum and neatly inked spine title. Its pocket size and portable format make it an attractive example of the Elzevir aesthetic: clarity, elegance, and usability. These small-format āRepublicsā became instantly popular across Europe and remain highly sought by collectors today. This 1629 issue is especially desirable as the earliest Elzevir printing of Gallia, predating later versions by a decade, and representing the first attempt by the press to codify Franceās political and aristocratic structure into a handy reference. A highly collectible Elzevir imprint, combining rarity, condition, and subject interest. Engraved title-page with arms of France and allegorical figures; contemporary ink spine title Descriptio Galliae; occasional reader marks in margins. Very Good. Contemporary limp vellum, lightly soiled but clean and square. Spine neatly titled. Engraved title crisp with only faint toning at lower margin. Textblock complete and clean, with minimal signs of wear. An unusually well-preserved example. Contemporary limp vellum with yapp edges, spine neatly titled in ink Descriptio Galliae. Vellum lightly soiled, mellowed to an attractive even tone. A strong, appealing survival in its original binding Elzevir edition, 1629 ā" one of the earliest issues in the celebrated Respublicae (āRepublicsā) series.
