Contemporary owner's name neatly written.

An inscription reads on front pastedown "James Godfrey Tate Winterton from Miss Ellen E. & Miss Ethel Fowler nieces of the writer Miss Elizth Fowler". The fore edge of the book has in a different hand "J.G. TATE" written in large capitals. Book is in very good minus condition with minor but noticeable signs of wear and/or age.

A smart first edition of this illustrated study of an old-fashioned garden, inscribed by the author in presentation to her brother. First edition. With an ink inscription to the front endpaper that reads "J. F. from E. F. Xmas, 1908.", a presentation from the author Elizabeth Fowler to her brother Reverend Joseph Thomas Fowler. Illustrated with a frontispiece and seven plates. Collated complete. A detailed description and collection of notes from the author's time spent in their old-fashioned garden, with tips for growing and accounts of the changes through the seasons. An index to the work tipped-in to the rear pastedown. Written by Elizabeth Fowler. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot and light age toning to the endpapers. Further spotting to the first and last few pages. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown, contemporary ink and pencil inscriptions to the endpapers, and a sticker to the front endpaper, with an index to the work tipped-in to the rear pastedown.
