hardcover. Condition: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. In Edge of Hope, Anthony Dawton and Jim McFarlane's photographs document the Rohingya people living in the refugee camp at Cox's Bazar in Kutupalong, Bangladesh. Almost one million refugees live in this camp having fled genocide committed by the Myanmarese government and military, and militias. The Rohingyan refugees live in fragile shelters through both sweltering heat and cyclone and monsoon season. They have poor nutrition and limited access to clean water and basic healthcare, and the cramped conditions encourage the spread of disease including vaccine-preventable and water-borne diseases, and covid-19. Over half of the refugees are children. Dawton and McFarlane are not subject to the time restraints that photojournalists are, so they can build relationships with their subjects. As a result, their photographs show humanity and dignity, despite the tragic circumstances. The Amal Foundation continues to work in the camp and Edge of Hope is published to raise funds and awareness for the foundation. SELLING POINTS: Anthony Dawton is an award-winning photographer who makes a living through commercial photography but wins his awards working for leading NGOs in some of the world's most difficult places. He is not a photojournalist. He says he always arrives too late for news images! He talks more than he shoots to avoid traumatising people and he finds the talking helps open spaces to allow stories to be told and feelings to be expressed. It is a process that brings about Dawton's remarkable pictures. Jim McFarlane graduated from Prahran CAE in 1981 and began his commercial photography career. His client mix allowed him a vast range of subject matter from ballet to food and people. Jim's passion for documentary, instilled in him during his studies, has never left him. Assignments for Save the Children and UNICEF have taken him to exotic places and he has exhibited in more than eight countries. Jim and his colleague Anthony Dawton have raised nearly $500,000 which has built 10 wells in Niger, giving fresh water to 10,000 people and as well as providing psychological therapy to war traumatized children in Gaza. SELLING POINTS: . Eighty-eight black-and-white photographs . In the photographs in this book, Rohingyan refugees communicate their struggle and their hope. The book is a plea to find ways to act in solidarity with them 88 b/w illustrations Anthony Dawton and Jim McFarlane's photographs of Rohingya people living in the refugee camp at Coxs Bazar, Bangladesh, having fled genocide by Myanmarese government, military and militias. "Harrowing and thought provoking, Dawton and McFarlane's images shine a light on the huge body of individuals living as refugees, who no longer occupy the front pages of newspapers, but are still without a home." - CookieBiscuit.co.ukIn Edge of Hope, Anthony Dawton and Jim McFarlane's photographs document the Rohingya people living in the refugee camp at Cox's Bazar in Kutupalong, Bangladesh. Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. When photographer Anthony Dawton realised how dramatically homelessness had increased in London, he took to the streets with his camera. For years he had taken photographs in areas of need worldwide, but after spending some time in his home city, he noticed how many people were living on its streets. He embarked on a new project to raise awareness for a city he no longer recognised: NOTLondon. Anthony Dawton photographs his subjects with a beauty and dignity that many of them are often denied. His portraits capture the strength and power of humanity as well as its vulnerability. By accompanying the image with the person's name and their story, Anthony gives voice to the voiceless and attempts to offer the homeless a place, a home on the page. Governmental institutions turn a blind eye to the homeless, leaving the work up to charities. Homeless shelters are rife with substance abuse, making them a dangerous place for those trying to overcome addiction. Homelessness becomes a vicious cycle and many find it difficult to break free. Since the start of the pandemic, over 70,000 households in the UK have been made homeless. Dawton's photographs are mesmerising, and as we stare into the eyes of their subjects, we're faced with reality: this is a problem that's getting worse and needs urgent attention. NOTLondon is a provoking campaign to help the city's most vulnerable and to address the fact that, despite its wealth, the city is not providing for those most in need. NOTLondon includes an introduction by Leilani Fahra, former UN special Rapporteur on the Right to Housing and the Global Director of The Shift. Having dedicated her life's work to changing attitudes to homelessness and attacking the governmental systems and structures which perpetrate homelessness, she shares her thoughts in NOTLondon, highlighting the importance of Dawton's project. Hotel Zaatari is an artistic initiative raising awareness and directing funds towards the Syrian refugees in the Zaatari refugee camp located on the Jordanian/Syrian border. Proceeds from Hotel Zaatari prints sales go to fund programs on the ground in Zaatari camp through our associated organisation Save the Children International, helping to provide the refugees with basic needs. In 2014 the photographic artists Anthony Dawton and Jim McFarlane, and the art house filmmakers Mais Salman and Zaid Baqaeen, created moving and complex artworks including photography and film out of their time spent in the Zaatari camp. The result is a body of work built from the perceptions and point of view of the refugees who have fled and arrived at a place that both their bodies and their minds struggle to cope with. The conditions in the camp, and the refugees state of mind remains the same today. They need to be heard, seen and supported. ALL PROCEEDS GO TO THE CAMP. #36376.…

In 2009, three international photographers with the support of Save the Children entered Gaza. For nearly two weeks the award winning photographers, Anthony Dawton, Jim McFarlane and Giuseppe Aquili photographed children and their families, victims of the Israeli incursion of 27 December 2008. The images are extraordinary.
