Januar 1753 in Lenggries, Oberbayern; 9. April 1830 in Viechtach) war ein Theologe, klassischer Philologe, Bibliothekar und Professor an der Universität Landshut. Der Sohn eines Landwirts und Flößers studierte Theologie in Ingolstadt und wurde 1781 zum Priester geweiht. Nach einem Benefiziat an der Moritzkirche wurde er 1784 Bibliothekar an der Universität Ingolstadt. Schon ein Jahr später erhielt er seine Entlassung wegen Mitgliedschaft in einer Münchner Loge des Illuminatenordens. Drexel betätigte sich dann als Hofmeister in Graubünden sowie als Bibliothekar in Brixen und Brescia. Ab 1787 war er Präfekt des Deutsch-Ungarischen Kollegiums in Pavia, ab 1797 Bibliothekar an der Nationalbibliothek in Brescia. 1802 wurde er rehabilitiert, zum Dr. phil. promoviert und zum Professor der lateinischen und griechischen Philologie an der Universität Landshut ernannt. Von 1802 bis 1803 und von 1806 bis 1810 war er zudem Oberbibliothekar an der Universitätsbibliothek. 1818 verließ er die Universität und wurde Pfarrer von Viechtach. (Quelle: REGIOWiki).
