Anton Flora (1818-1883) war zunächst Augenarzt und Chirurg in Wien, dann Militärarzt, zuletzt in Lodi (Lomb…ardo-Venetien); Arzt, 1849 Kreisgerichtsarzt in Bozen (Tirol); 1856 praktischer Arzt, 1858 auch Privatdozent für praktische Epidemiologie in Wien, 1864 Übersiedlung nach Kairo, seit 1865 im ägyptischen staatlichen Gesundheitsdienst (Sanitätsarzt), meist am arabischen Spital in Suez; seit 1869 Arzt in Kairo (Verkürzt aus : Republik Österreich, Parlament). In seiner Vorrede räumt er ein, dass er der Cholera anfangs ziemlich ratlos gegenüberstand und sich erst durch Theorie und Praxis der Krankheit nähern mußte. Die Cholera hatte sich im Sommer 1855 von Padua, wo sie den ganzen Winter hindurch geherrscht, durch das lombardisch-venetianische Königreich und Wälsch-Tirol verbreitet und forderte überall sehr zahlreiche Opfer .
