Un contributo che appare di grande rilevanza nel quadro dell'importante evoluzione della dottrina che si attua nella prima metà del XX secolo ma che sembrerebbe non aver trovato, ad oggi, il dovuto riconoscimento. Benché egli non abbia mai formulato una vera e propria 'teoria', la sua riflessione sui compiti del restauratore e sulle finalità del restauro traspare dagli oltre sessanta interventi di 'restauro, completamento e ampliamento' condotti tra il 1913 e il 1963: tutti contraddistinti da rigore storico-critico, massimo riguardo per le preesistenze nel loro contesto antropico e naturale e, non in ultimo, coraggiosa umiltà. Un'eredità tangibile di opere tuttora interrogabili e presenti in palinsesti urbani, talvolta sensibilmente mutati che, ormai a cinquant'anni dalla sua scomparsa, questo volume si propone di ripercorrere, al fine di pervenire ad una ricostruzione sincronica e diacronica dell'apporto - per molti aspetti, innovativo e precursore - fornito dal colto progettista bergamasco.
