Add to basketBREVIARIUM CISTERCIENSE 1762 - Complete Four-Volume Set Michaelis-Antonii David, Ordinis Cisterciensis Mono-Bibliopolae, via Mathurinensium Breviarium Cisterciense authoritate Reverendissimi D.D. Abbatis Cisterciensis Generalis editum. An exceptionally rare and historically important complete four-volume Breviarium Cisterciense, printed in 1762 for the Cistercian Order under the authority of the Abbot General. This monumental eighteenth-century breviary set represents the fully developed liturgical tradition of the Cistercians prior to the upheavals and suppressions that would affect monastic Europe later in the century. Printed by Michaelis-Antonii David, official bookseller to the Cistercian Order, the set embodies the austere elegance and devotional seriousness characteristic of Cistercian liturgical culture. Complete multi-volume Cistercian breviaries from this period are extraordinarily difficult to locate, particularly as surviving sets were often dispersed, heavily used in choir service, or lost during periods of political and ecclesiastical upheaval. The survival of all four volumes together constitutes a remarkable rarity and an important witness to pre-modern monastic liturgical life. An exceptional collector's item for specialists in monastic orders, eighteenth-century ecclesiastical printing, and the liturgical history of the Cistercian tradition. A museum-worthy survival from the ancien régime Church.
