Slipcase in Very Good condition. An important book by Raymond, late in his life. Antonin (1888-1976) and Noà mi (1889-1980) Raymond completed stunning work both in the United States and abroad but are best known for their mid-century modern work and structures in Japan in the 1930s.

This copy with the original comb binding covers slipped into a custom cloth binding for Michael Hugo-Brunt (1924-1988, an architecture professor at Cornell before moving to the School of Architecture of the University of Western Australia. Trained at Czech Technical University, Raymond immigrated to the United States in 1910 and worked with Cass Gilbert on the Woolworth Building (completed 1913) and Frank Lloyd Wright, eventually traveling with Wright to Tokyo for that city's Imperial Hotel (completed 1921). The self-published Architectural details provides advice for the designer using Raymond's work and philosophy as a model. In interior plans and elevations, sectional drawings, and examples of dramatic self-supporting staircases, concrete proves an optimal material in both aesthetics and durability. Sharp p.106. The Czech-born Raymond studied with Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesen and was his chief assistant on the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. He spent most of his professional life in Japan, where he practiced independently as "American Architect-Engineers." He left Japan in 1937, opened a New York office the next year, and returned permanently to Tokyo to reopen his office there in 1948. The AIA awarded him their Medal of Honor in 1956.
