Nuovo repertorio e nuova maschera Il giorno 18 marzo 1876, dalle colonne del Programma giornaliero, il teatro San Carlino annunciava, fatto inconsueto, il proprio riposo per concerto generale della nuovissima commedia attualità scritta negli scorsi giorni dall'artista Antonio Petito, e di cui si darà prima rappresentazione domenica 19 febbraio. E l'ultimo testo scritto dall'artista. Quella del San Carlino era una compagnia infaticabile, e proprio in quegli anni dava quotidianamente due spettacoli (pomeridiano e serale) per l'intera settimana; ogni giorno appariva sulle colonne del Programma giornaliero che, in questo caso, pubblicò in anticipo l'elenco. I problemi di allestimento dello spettacolo erano certo apprezzabili, ma non tali da giustificare la pausa. Anche la famosa parodia dell'Aida richiese un apprezzabile apparato scenico, eppure non vi fu pausa nella programmazione del teatro. Ma forse in quei giorni di marzo la tensione era maggiore. L'ultimo annuncio di una prima assoluta di un testo. II Programma giornaliero era un foglio quotidiano a stampa che riportava l'attività di tutti i teatri napoletani. É una interessantissima fonte per lo studio dello spettacolo a Napoli tra la seconda metà dell'Ottocento e i primi anni del Novecento. Le varie annate si trovano raccolte in volumi presso la Sezione Lucchesi Palli della Biblioteca Nazionale di Napoli, che si dimostra ancora una volta custode di preziosi documenti. Tutte le successive indicazioni sui cartelloni teatrali napoletani, s'intendono tratte da questa fonte, se non diversamente indicato.
