Condition: Good. Manuscript Indenture Signed, dated 18 December, 1714. One vellum sheet measuring approximately 13¾" x 15". Signed by "James Antrum" (his mark) with a corresponding red wax seal affixed to an attached strip of linen. Also signed by four witnesses: Joshua Frettwell, Thomas and Samuel Scattergood (and one other person); and on the docketed verso by Justice John Allen. Light toning and a few tiny holes along the old folds, loss of about one nickel-sized patch and three small holes at the bottom horizontal fold, some ink flaking and fading, good or better overall. A colonial era indenture made between two of the earliest Quaker settlers at Mansfield Township in Burlington County, New Jersey. The detailed and neatly written document sets forth the terms of the indenture, including a description of "Meadowland" to be conveyed to Antrum. Both men are referred to as a "Yeoman". James Antrum (aka Antram, c.1667-1739) settled at Mansfield in 1678. Robert Hunt (c. 1680-1716) was the husband of Elizabeth (Woolman) Harvey and a first cousin to the renowned Quaker minister John Woolman. A scarce colonial document on vellum.
