Birmingham with a conductor's-eye account of the line and numerous captioned photographs of the locomotives Montezuma, Vista Grande, and Goldfield, the restored Midland Terminal depot, trestles, yard scenes, and passengers riding the open cars through Poverty Gulch and the surrounding mining district. Provides a snapshot of the early years of the CC&V two foot gauge tourist operation, which opened in 1967 and continues as a heritage railroad. Contents include: Building a Railroad; Highlights from the CC&V Conductor's Lecture; The CC&V Timetable.

First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. First Edition, 2nd Printing. Very early printing of this later title (#26) in the original Tom Swift series, which was comprised of 40 volumes written under the pseudonym Victor Appleton (Howard Roger Garis) published 1910-1941. Each was described as "spirited tales [whose purpose was] to convey in a realistic way the wonderful advance in land & sea locomotion & to interest the boy of the present in the hope that he may be a factor in aiding the marvelous development that is coming in the future." First published by Grosset & Dunlap in 1923, this is likely a second printing of that First Edition, listing to next title on front flap, to Self in front matter, & previous title #25 in rear (along with 7 lists of other children's series). In 212 pages, with a glossy frontispiece, this thick 12mo has the tan cloth-covered board with four-panel illustration around a center circle with title to front cover. Condition is VG: generally quite clean with the occasional spot or smudge. Binding straight & strong, hinges secure. Pages creamy white with light, age-appropriate tanning, but completely unmarked. Exterior edges & corners show a tad of bumping & there are a few small spots of paper residue stuck to lower front board. The unclipped DJ is Poor, missing the upper part of the spine above the cameo portrait of Tom, & another chip out of upper-right-outer corner to front cover, but the majority of the image of the bi-plane remains intact & colorful; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover Free! Our photos depict the EXACT book you will receive from us--never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
