Primo volume in prima edizione della monumentale opera di compilazione numismatica curata dall'Argelati, al tempo prefetto della Biblioteca Ambrosiana a Milano. L'intento dell'opera era di radunare i trattati pià importanti dell'economia monetaria italiana (Manni, Scaruffi e Davanzati) e integrarlo organicamente con notizie del tempo dello scrittore e sull'attività delle zecche, in particolare quella di Milano.
