The album also includes 176 black and white photos measuring between 3.5 x 2.5" and… 5 x 4" with four more tipped in. World War II era photograph album. The bulk of the album appears to be photographs from the Isle of Leyte, in the Philippines. The album is undated, but is likely from late 1944 or 1945, after the US Army and Navy recaptured the island from the Japanese. The bulk of photos are of US Army men on the island, hanging around their camp, and posing with local people and animals. Also includes a number of silly photos, including Army men boxing, playing baseball, wearing hula skirts, posing in their underwear, and goofing off around camp or on the beach. A large number of photographs are of Leyte and its environs. This includes photographs of airplanes, battlefields, destroyed buildings, and cemeteries from the recent Battle of Leyte and naval Battle of Leyte Gulf. Also includes photographs of local peoples, nature, buildings, churches. Several military equipment, including planes and jeeps are visible. Also includes a number of names and addresses of servicemen on the thin paper pages, with several more tucked in. Many of the addresses are from Pennsylvania. Ronson lighter warranty also tucked in. Also included are several inscriptions from servicemen, which indicate that the owner of this book may have started his service in Fort Gordon and have served as a cook. This is further supported by a short handwritten letter, addressed to Pat. A handwritten poem addressed to Pat describes stops at Fort Gordon; Finschhafen "Finsch," Papua New Guinea; Lae, Papua New Guinea; and then Leyte, and indicates that these signatures and writings were gathered in preparation for "Pat's" return to the USA. Some of the servicemen who signed the book include: Thomas J. Sanford (PA) , Paul Mnoian (CA), Bob Bullock (CA), Jose Fernandez (CA), Nick DiNoti (PA), Louis Schopfer (PA), Michael Riccioli (PA), Eugene Burnett (PA), John Gambone (PA), Morris Lieberman (PA), Luis M. Portugal (TX), John Sommers (VA), John Berger (PA), Joseph Smith (PA), Frances Doneck (PA), Sam Januzelli (PA). Overall, very good condition. Occasional foxing to cover and internal pages, small puncture holes on a few pages, lower left hand corner of cover turned, light edgewear, and some photographs absent.
