Enthält ein Vorwort von Stephan Häsler, einen Nachruf auf Arnold Theiler und den mehrteiligen Beitrag (als Reprint aus «Schweizerische Monatszeitschrift für Offiziere aller Waffen»). - Arnold Theiler (geb. 1867, Frick, gest. 1936, London): «1889 Diplom in Tierarzneikunde in Zürich, 1901 Dr. med. vet. in Bern. 1891 wanderte Arnold Theiler nach Südafrika aus und liess sich als Tierarzt in Pretoria nieder. Er verzeichnete Erfolge in der Bekämpfung von Tierseuchen. 1896 wurde Theiler Staatsveterinär, 1910-1918 Direktor des veterinärmedizinischen Forschungsinstituts in Onderstepoort (Pretoria) und dann der neu gegründeten veterinärmedizinischen Fakultät in Pretoria. Ab 1927 lebte er in Basel und Luzern. Theiler war ein Pionier in der Erforschung tropischer Tierkrankheiten und gilt als Begründer der Veterinärmedizin in Südafrika. 1914 wurde er von König Georg V. von England geadelt. Nebst zahlreichen Auszeichnungen erhielt Theiler sieben Ehrendoktorate, unter anderem 1923 von der Universität Bern» (HLS).
