Originally published by George Johnson famed for The Magic Wand and printed in two-color letterpress in London, the book reflects a transitional moment in British stage magic: part revival, part reinvention. Arrowsmith s tricks range from clever pocket effects to parlor illusions, many with a practical, no-nonsense tone that suggests performance over flash. This copy, published by Louis Tannen in New York, is an undated reprint of the original British edition. While the publication date isn't specified, it's believed that Tannen released this edition in the late 1940s.  Stamped on the title page is the ownership mark of "Presto the Digitator", the stage name of Fredric Broder, a Long Beach-based magician known for his dynamic close-up work and eccentric presence in the Southern California magic scene. Broder performed throughout the mid-20th century and was known for his flair, his sharp sleights, and a memorable blend of humor and mystery. He was also known as the proprietor of his brick-and-mortar storefront "Presto s Magic Shop" on Viking Way.
