[from back cover] Author Allene Arthur, one of the girls back home during World War II, corresponded faithfully with sixty-six servicemen. Many of the faded, yellowing saved letters from the guys are reproduced here. Some letters are witty and articulate, some barely literate, some lovesick, some descriptive of training and deployment. Some draftees tell of their adjustment to the military ? what they saw as advantages, and what pissed them off. It's a word picture of wartime Los Angeles and how a girl they left behind and her family and friends fought WWII on the home front. It speaks of the wartime culture, what citizens did without, the songs they sang, the movies they saw. It s about the brave, scared, obedient boy-men in uniform they missed, celebrated and sometimes mourned. Signed by Author.
