Arthur Böttcher (1831-1889) besuchte von 1851 ab die Univeristät zu Dorpat. Am 7. Mai 1856 wurde er nach Verteidigung der Abhandlung: "Observationes microscopicae de ratione qua nervus cochleae mammalium terminatur" zum Dr. med. promoviert. Er begab sich dann nach Deutschland um seine Studien fortzusetzen, verharrte zwei Wintersemester in Berlin, um speciell bei Virchow zu arbeiten und besuchte Wien und Paris. Nach Dorpat zurückgekehrt wurde er im April 1861 zum ausserordentlichen, im October 1862 zum ordentlichen Professor der allgemeinen Pathologie und pathologischen Anatomie ernannt. Unter seinen zahlreichen grösseren und kleineren Arbeiten, meist pathologisch-anatomischen Inhalts, verdienen besonderse Erwähnung diejenigen Abhandlungen, welche sich mit dem Bau und der Entwicklung des Ohres beschäftigen. - Hirsch I, p.510f.
