The book is housed in a red cloth slipcase titled in gilt on the cover & spine. The cloth is slightly loose along the inner lip of the slipcase. 243 & [2] pages, with black & white textual illustrations and profuse full-page color illustrations depicting Japanese and Buddhist art on fabric. The book has a very slight musty odor. Very good. Although the publishing information is printed in English at the end, the text is printed in Japanese calligraphy.

Both English and Japanese covers and title pages. This publication documents the first ever International Photographic Salon of the All Japan Association of Photographic Societies, held May 3rd -17th 1927 in Tokyo and then May 25th -June 1st in Osaka. Included here are 189 photographic reproductions (mostly in b/w) of images featured in the exhibition, including 5 "color halftones" tipped in on card stock (including a frontispiece). Images include works from countless prominent photographers including Ori Umesaka, Nakaji Yasui, Frantisek Drtikol, Emil Otto Hoppe, Jozsef Pesci and Arnold Genthe. More than half the works included are from Japanese photographers. Includes covers, title pages, list of participants, tables of contents and captions throughout in both Japanese and English. The society had formed the previous year from the merging of the two largest and most prominent photographic societies in Japan. This exhibition, which was sponsored by the Asahi Shimbun Publishing, publisher of the prominent newspaper, showcased the work of hundreds of photographers from around the world and featured more than 1000 images. Of those works, 298 photographs were judged to be of the highest caliber of merit, by a panel of judges which included many prominent Japanese photographers of the time. Text in English and Japanese. Binding with some light bumping and rubbing to corners. Edges of covers light smudged and age-toned. Initial pages on both the Japanese and English side lightly foxed, as well as edges of the book block. Images mostly unaffected, except for some occasional sporadic minor stains or smudges in the margins of the page. P.176 with a closed tear slightly affecting the image. Binding in very good-, interior in very good condition overall. Quite scarce.
