Before the war he gained fame after publishing the series "Tuhkur hobune" (The pale horse) and cycle of novels "Andruksonide suguvősa" (The Andruksonide clan). After the establishment of Soviet power he became leading writer of Socialist realism. Cover design by Peet Aren (1889-1970), famous Estonian painter, graphic artist, painter of stage decorations and illustrator of books. Early art works expressed the national romantic and stylising manner of the "Mir Iskusstva", later he turned to Expressionism and Art Deco.

One of the most striking wrapper designs by Jaan Vahtra (1882-1947), a prominent Estonian avant-garde artist and illustrator and leader of the Artists' Group of Cubism and Constructivism (founded 1923). Jakobson (1904-1963) was a communist writer who won the literary award of the Loodus publishing house with this work, which first led to wider acclaim. In 1939, Jakobson was elected to the Estonian Writers' Union and after the Soviet occupation he led the Soviet Writer's Union of Estonia (1944-1954). Ratnik 70.
