Das albertinische Sachsen erlebte unter seiner Regierung eine wirtschaftliche und soziale Blüte. Innenpolitisch versuchte er, sich weitgehend von den sächsischen Landständen unabhängig zu machen. Er baute die landesherrlichen Verwaltungsstrukturen aus und regelte das Justizwesen neu. Im Zuge seiner umfassenden Reformen reorganisierte er auch das Münzwesen. August erlangte die Kurfürstenwürde nach dem Tode seines Bruders Moritz, der keine männlichen Nachkommen hatte.…
