Vorphila-Brief von 1852 aus Berlin. --- Der Kaufmann August Sterneberg (1809-1895), der zu Besuch bei seinem Bruder, dem Schriftsteller und Arzt Dr. Johann Wilhelm Sterneberg (1807-1888) ist, schreibt an seine Mutter, die Witwe Johann Sterneberg, geb. Hueffer (1783-1860) in Münster, Tochter des Professors Christian Hueffer aus Stromberg. Diese ist in den Münsteraner Adressbüchern fälschlich als Witwe Johanna Sternberg verzeichnet. --- August Sterneberg war ein Sohn des Kaufmanns Franz Joseph Anton Sterneberg (1771-1817) und wurde am 1. Mai 1809 in Münster geboren. Später kehrte er nach Nürnberg zurück, wo er 7. Dezember 1895 starb. --- Datiert Berlin, den 9. November 1852. --- Er erwähnt eine geplante Reise nach New York. --- Im Brief erwähnt er eine unglückliche Liebe zu seiner Cousine Julie (Wilde?) aus Münster; dabei handelt es sich wohl nicht um seine verstorbene Ehefrau. --- Auszüge: "Liebe Mama! Schon von Cöln aus [.] beabsichtigte ich, Dir die Begebenheit mitzutheilen, welche mich plötzlich, wie im Sturm, aus meinen früheren Verhältnissen gerissen und mir eine neue Laufbahn angewiesen hat [.]. Ungern rife ich die Geschichte meines Leidens in's Andenken zurück, denn es kostet mich jedesmal nicht wenig Mühe, die verschiedenen Gefühle, die dann mit Kraft wieder aufwallen, zu dämpfen, doch ich bin es, Dir liebe Mama, schuldig. [.] Der Ausbruch einer unglücklich Neigung zu der lieben Julie, die nicht weniger erwidert wurde, machte den Anfang und das Ende meiner Katastrophe. Seit ich zum erstenmale sie noch ein Kind erblickte, gewann sie mein Herz, und der stete ungehinderte Umgang mit ihr nährte die Neigung so sehr, daß ich nach zwey Jahren mich [.] unglücklich fand, als Tante, aufmerksam geworden oder gemacht, mit der Erklärung dazwischentrat, daß sie, so willkommen ich ihr übrigens als Schwiegersohn seyn würde, der nahen Verwandtschaft halber darauf dringen müsse, daß ich meine Neigung unterdrücke, da sie so viele Beyspiele unglücklicher Verbindungen damals gesehen, und ihr Kind nicht preisgeben könne. Glaubend, ohne den Gehalt dieses Grundes zu prüfen, entsagte ich aufrichtig, indem ich die Sorge der Mutter, die schon zwey Kinder veloren, ehrte." --- Dann berichtet er, wie er Julie am 15. Oktober 1852 zuerst bei einem Ball und dann bei einem Gastmahl zu Ehren seines Bruders wiedersieht und neu für sie entflammt; sie sagt, dass sie die seine werden möchte. "Aber nur kurz währte die Freude; schon am anderen Tag entstand ein unseliges Mißverständniß durch einen förmlichen Liebesbrief von Eduard Hüffer, das sich zwar zu meiner völligen Genugthuung auflöste, aber leider alles ans Licht brachte [.]. Ich kann nur schweigen oder toben. Blos ein Fingerzeig: erinnere Dich der Aeußerung meiner damaligen Ansicht über Onkel Wilde und Halb-Bruder Jodocus. [.] O des Glückes, gute Geschwister zu haben! [.] so bin ich jetzt in Berlin beim lieben Bruder Wilhelm und werde Pepe auf der Leipziger Neujahrsmesse treffen; von da reise ich nach Hamburg, dann nach Bremen, von wo ich bey guter Jahreszeit nach Newyork oder Baltimore unter Segel gehe [.]. Ich verbleibe mit herzlichster Liebe Dein Sohn August." --- Umfang: drei Textseiten und eine Adressseite (26,3 x 22 cm). --- Format (zusammengefaltet): 8,3 x 12,5 cm. --- Anm.: Auf der ancestry-Website ist der Verfasser in einem privat angelegten Stammbauim verzeichnet. Demnach hatte er 1850 Eleanor Jessie, geb. Hallett (geb. 14. November 1814 in London) geheiratat, die am 29. Juli 1852 in New York nach der Geburt ihrer Tochter Emma Sterneberg gestorben war. Die Tochter Emma Sterneberg ging später zurück nach Deutschland und starb dort am 23. Dezember 1910. --- Diese Angaben erscheinen unwahrscheinlich; generell sind Angaben aus privaten Stammbäumen mit Vorsicht zu genießen. .
