IV. 1864); das undatierte Schriftstück mit der Mitteilung, daß seine Toccata und Fuge für das Pianoforte einer Frau Director Ribbeck zu dedizieren sei: Der Vorname der Frau Director Ribbeck ist: Auguste demnach Italienisch: Augusta". August Wilhelm Bach studierte Orgel bei Karl Zelter, Ludwig Berger und Karl Wilhelm Henning und wurde später Organist an St. Gertraud und an der Marienkirche in Berlin. 1822 berief ihn Zelter als Lehrer an das neugegründete Königliche Institut für Kirchenmusik; 1832 wurde Bach dessen Nachfolger als Direktor. Er lehrte auch an der Berliner Akademie der Künste und war Orgelsachverständiger im preußischen Kultusministerium. 1858 erfolgte seine Ernennung zum Professor" (DBE). Zu Bachs Werk zählen überwiegend Kirchenmusik und Klavierstücke; sein Choralbuch für das Gesangbuch zum gottesdienstlichen Gebrauch für evangelische Gemeinden" (1830) war damals weit verbreitet; zu seinen Orgelschülern zählte u. a.
