Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents compelling arguments against the phenomenon of philosophers selling themselves as companions to emperors and wealthy patrons. The author explores the motivations and consequences of the practice, challenging the justifications given by philosophers who defend it. By examining the historical context, the author sheds light on how philosophers' status and treatment influence their work. The book also discusses the ethical implications of philosophers' dependency on wealthy patrons and argues that true philosophy should be independent and critical, rather than subservient to those in power. Ultimately, this book provides valuable insights into the relationship between philosophy and society, exploring the challenges and rewards of pursuing wisdom in a world often hostile to critical thinking. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
