Il a rejoint vers 1927 l'équipe du Cabaret « La Vache Enragée » conduite par Roger Toziny. Jacques Cathy poursuit sa carrière de chansonnier après le décès de Toziny en 1939 et après la guerre il conduit parallèlement une carrière d'acteur dans le cinéma. Jacques Cathy était le 3ème Maire de La Commune Libre de Montmartre à partir de l'élection en 1949.Final provenance: Les Collections Aristophil - 164 bis avenue Charles-de-Gaulle, 92200 Neuilly-sur-Seine.

Superbe portrait de Henri IV et Gabrielle d'Estrées calligraphié à la plume par Auvrest, Maître de dessin à la cour de Louis XVI, d'après Pierre-Jean-Paul Berny de Nogent. La composition originale de Berny de Nogent, datée de 1772, est conservée au Städel Museum à Francfort. Une autre version de ce portrait, dédiée "à son Altesse Royale Monsieur frère du Roy", est aujourd'hui conservée au Musée national du Château de Pau. La dédicace ne semble pouvoir être adressée qu'au futur Charles X pendant le règne de Louis XVIII, datant le dessin des années 1815-1824. Le Château de Pau conserve un total de neuf portraits calligraphiés d'Auvrest. Jolie composition témoignant de l'influence du maître Berny de Nogent sur un calligraphe de la cour de Louis XVI puis de Louis XVIII.".
