(xxx), 375p, Illustrated by 98 Photographs after engravings from the Boydell gallery, plus frontispiece (statue of Shakespeare) and round vignette on title page. All photographs are remarquably sharp, contrasty and unfaded. They could have been printed yesterday. Each ph…otograph was meticulously mounted on a single sided page, with detailed descriptions of the scene and credits to the original artist and engraver on the opposite page. Rules around each text page and each photograph. Bound in red decorative clothwith a gilt impression of Shakespeare on the front board. Binding discolored in places, and spine is cracked. Occasional foxing, esp. at the beginning, but most photos and mount are clean. Overall a good copy of a very scarce title, remarquable for the quantity and quality of its photographic illustrations.
