Pour mettre ce texte en images, Henri Galeron a créé de magnifiques scènes, avec des paysages façon peinture du XVIIe siècle, dans lesquelles le comique des personnages et la drôlerie des situations détonnent. Mimini segni d'usura perimetrali, con un leggerissimo accenno di piega verticale al piatto anteriore, visibile solo verso e che non intacca la grafica; uno dei bifoli centrali leggermente allentato; nel complesso in ottime condizioni. ĞAzimuth 2ğ con lieve brunitura marginale e ingiallitura verso della copertina; interni leggermente bruniti, come normale; complessivamente in ottime condizioni. Raro insieme completo dei due volumi della più importante rivista italiana d'arte contemporanea dei primi anni sessanta. In una lettera all'amico Valentino Dori (alias Giorgio Carmenati Francia), databile ai primi del 1959, Piero Manzoni annuncia la separazione dal Movimento nucleare: ĞOggi ahimè il movimento si è scisso in due: io ora sono con Castellani e Bonalumi e perseguiamo quella linea che tu mi hai visto iniziare: usciremo prestissimo con una rivista nostra, di parte, che si chiamerà Pragma, e abbiamo al solito un programma quanto mai vivaceğ (Battino & Palazzoli, n. 79). La rivista a cui si fa riferimento finirà per chiamarsi in altro modo, ma è qui l'origine del progetto Azimut/Azimuth (senza "h" la galleria, con "h" la rivista). Nel febbraio del 1959 il trio suddetto espone alla Galleria del Prisma di Milano, una mostra poi portata alla Galleria Appia antica di Roma, in aprile, con presentazione di Leo Paolazzi (sarà Antonio Porta), e a settembre a Losanna, Galerie Kasper. Nello stesso aprile Manzoni apre una personale all'Aja (Relief schilderijen) e scrive ancora a Dori: ĞSto preparando in questi giorni una nuova rivista d'arte, molto battagliera [] sembra che venga molto bene. [] Il nostro gruppo aumenta e la rivista servirà proprio a definirloğ (ivi, n. 103). In luglio è la volta dell'esordio del gruppo Zero al Rotterdam Kunstkring, istituzione fondata nel 1893 e da sempre attenta all'arte contemporanea (ospitò un'importante mostra futurista nel maggio del 1913 e già una personale di Manzoni nel settembre 1958): espone il gruppo Zero di Rotterdam più Manzoni. La stessa mostra approda alla fine di ottobre alla galleria Appia antica di Roma: il design dei cataloghi e del materiale promozionale relativo a questi due eventi mostra chiaramente l'origine grafica della copertina di Azimuth. -- ĞIn the autumn of this year, Manzoni's idea of opening and running a gallery materialises when he and Castellani rent and fit out a basement connected with a furniture shop in via Dei Bossi on the corner with via Clerici in Milan, which is later to become Galleria Azimut. [] In the same period, around October, while the first issue of the review "Azimuth" is going to press, Bonalumi, who has worked on it for a long time now, withdraws because of differences of opinion and disagreements about theoretical and ideological considerations. The first issue is edited by Castellani and Manzoni with the assistance of Marco Santini as editorial secretary and the graphic designer Cecco Re, who designed the cover and also suggested the title. The address of the review is via Cernaia 4 in Milan, Manzoni's home address.
