2 volumes, 18x12 cm. Contemporary marbled wrappers, lightly worn at edges and rubbed. Overall very good to near fine condition with very light scattered foxing. [3], xvii, [1], 284; [1], x, [1], 286, [1] pp. Volume 1 has an engraved title page. Volume 2 has 6 folding tables and 4 plates (1 folding) including an engraved title page. At the back of volume 2, in manuscript on six blank leaves, is a short work in French: Seize Medailles Monuments en Signe de Pierre le Grand de Russie. Paris: 1860. This manuscript text describes medals issued in honor of Peter the Great. It is not clear whether this is a transcription of a printed work or an original essay. We could not find any reference to a printed edition of this work. Volume I is a history of the city of St. Petersburg from 1703 to 1723. Volume II provides detailed information about the condition of the city, largely economic but also social, with the tables providing statistics about trade, population, births, deaths, churches and much more, all broken down by the various areas of the city. A very rare set, particularly as it appears that the two volumes were not published at the same time. Published by L'imprimerie de Veuve Pluchart et fils. OCLC 84176640 (Harvard, Boston Public Library, U.of Hawaii), 1389161019 (Bibliotheque Nationale de France), and 1 other location.
