No Jacket. hardback, foolscap measuring 13" x 8", ruled pages, comprising the log of the author from 10th April 1966 - 15th march 1967. a ms daily record with meticulous, lengthy entires and detailed daily weather reports, reflecting the author's occupation as meteorologist with the British Antarctic Survey. The volume is covered with greased brown paper. This log covers the period when the author had left Adelaide Island for South Georgia and thence journeys to South America before returning to Southampton in March 1967. It includes tipped-in Pilot Balloon Ascent forms as well as a number of photographs of South Georgia and the men who were based there. The focus changes from South Georgia on 22nd November when the writer leaves for Montevideo via Port Stanley and thence to Santiago and a very detailed reportage of a sojourn in Chile & Peru. A large amount of related ephemera is loosely inserted at front and rear and there is also a detailed account of expenses incurred. Ken Back, who now lives in Montevideo, Uruguay was with the BAS 1963-1978. and spent eight winters at Adelaide Island, Signy, Halley, Faraday, Rothera, as Meteorological observer & later as base leader. Subsequently he worked at the South Georgia Museum, 1995-98, and for UKAHT Port Lockroy, 1998-2000.

A ms. daily record with meticulous, lengthy entries and detailed daily weather reports, reflecting the author's occupation as meteorologist with the British Antarctic Survey. The front covers are decorated with snippets from the 'Arctic Picket'. based at Schefferville where he served on secondment to McGill University's Knob Lake subarctic research laboratory, 1967-9 The first three months of the log cover the author's journeys through North and Central America and thence to Havant in Hampshire, He returns to Canada and his reporting includes tipped-in botanical specimens from his excursions. Again. back in the UK in September 1969 he leaves for Montevideo on board the John Biscoe and eventually to Adelaide Island & Fossil Bluff via Port Stanley and the Argentine Islands. The log continues with almost daily entries & with both personal and occupational information, through to Friday 26th March 1971. At the rear is a detailed report on Atmospheric Crystals and a list of books read during the period.
