Very rare copy of Ibando de Bardaxi's most important work, complete and well preserved. -- Spanish vellum binding with supralibros on both covers - the gold embossed coat of arms of Aragon. Folio [29,5 x 22 cm]. (6), 560, (37) pp. With a handwritten ExLibris on the title page: Doctoris Josephus Santhar (?). With numerous woodcut initials. One page with a longer restored tear (no loss of text), pages at the beginning slightly stained and with a few tiny wormholes, binding stained, the last page with some marginal tears, otherwise in very good condition. Ibando de Bardaxí y Almenara (c. 15201586), Lord of Ballestar and La Selva, was a prominent Aragonese jurist and counselor of the Chancery of Aragon. Born into a noble family, he pursued a legal career likely after studying at the University of Zaragoza. He held several important judicial positions, including counselor of the Audiencia Criminal and lieutenant of the Court of the Justice of Aragon. Bardaxí was known for his expertise in Aragonese law and was deeply involved in the legal traditions of his time. His career culminated in his role as advisor to the General Government of Aragon until his death in 1586, shortly after a visit to the Monastery of Montserrat in Catalonia. In 1592, Lorenzo Robles published in Zaragoza the most important work of Ibando de Bardaxí, his Commentarii in quatuor Aragonensium Fororum libros, which followed the classic model of the commentary on the mos italicus (a system of studying the law) according to which, after the rubric of the respective law, the numbered summary of the quaestiones examined in the body of the commentary is included, constructed on the basis of extensive use of civil and canon lawyers of common law, especially Italian, but also including French jurists such as Rebuffe, Casaneo, Tiraquelo, Cuyacio and, naturally, Aragonese such as Martín de Pertusa, Pérez de Patos, Antich de Bages, but above all Miguel del Molino, and Castilians such as Antonio Gómez, Luis Velázquez de Avendańo and Diego de Covarrubias. Bardaxí was a key figure in the development of Aragonese legal literature in the late 16th century. He authored and contributed to several important works, including the Summa de los Fueros y Observancias del Reino de Aragón (1587) and the present, posthumously published work, Commentarii in quatuor Aragonensium Fororum libros (1592). His works were heavily influenced by Italian and French legal traditions, though he maintained a strong connection to Aragonese law, drawing on local jurists like Miguel del Molino. His legal writings and treatises, especially on the roles of government officials, left a lasting impact on the legal framework of Aragon. // Wir, das Antiquariat Steffen Völkel, kaufen und verkaufen alte Bücher, Handschriften, Zeichnungen, Autographen, Grafiken und Fotografien.
