Ihr Vater war der Fürst Anton Radziwill, in der Künstlerwelt bekannt als der Mäcen Chopins und als Komponist der Musik zu Goethes Faust. Er stammte aus einem der ältesten und angesehensten litauischen Fürstengeschlechter mit fast königlichem Besitz Besitz in Litauen, Polen und Posen, das sich im Laufeder Jahrhunderte mehrfach mit den Hohenzollern verschwägert hatte.
