During the years 1777 to 1783 Boswell contributed seventy papers to The London Magazine under the pseudonum "The Hypochondriack." Written while he was between the ages of 38 and 43, they provided Boswell with an opportunity to comment on life from an immense variety of angles from 'Love' to 'Cookery', and to search into his own experiences, character and background. They reveal much about the character of Boswell and the life and thought of an 18th century gentleman.
