Jean-Sylvain Bailly. Bailly préfère les lettres et les sciences. Il travaille d'abord…pour le théâtre, mais lié à Lacaille, il s'intéresse très tôt à l'astronomie et fait construire un observatoire sur le toit du Louvre à Paris. Ses observations astronomiques lui valent son élection à l'Académie des sciences en 1763. Peu avant la révolution, il aide Alexandre Lenoir à sauvegarder le patrimoine français.
