Cette importante publication de Baizeau, non illustrée, occupe les pages 641-669 de ce fascicule. Il s'agit du premier mémoire à exposer le procédé novateur de l'auteur, qui est comparé aux autres procédés. /// THE OUTSTANDING WORK OF BAIZEAU (Baizeau-Langenbeck or Langenbeck URANOPLASTY) / COPY CONTAINING TWO NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS, one of which illustrated, on the subject /// Ce nouveau procédé n'avait fait l'objet que d'une communication (présentation de deux observations) à la Société de chirurgie en 1858. Anacharsis Baizeau (1821-1910) fut chirurgien militaire, professeur agrégé au Val-de-Grâce. Après un rappel sur les anciens moyens thérapeutiques (obturateurs, compressions), Baizeau expose ici les procédés d'uranoplastie [procédé par glissement (Roux, Langenbeck), procédé de Mason Warren], les procédés par renversement à deux lambeaux (procédé de Krimer, de Velpeau, de Pancoast) ou à un lambeau (procédé de Bonfils) et les procédés par déplacement latéral (procédés de Roux, et de Botrel). Puis il expose son nouveau procédé : "Un autre procédé par déplacement latéral, que j'ai eu occasion d'appliquer deux fois avec un succès complet, consiste à faire, sur les deux côtés latéraux de la perforation, deux lambeaux longitudinaux, détachés de la voûte par la face profonde, mais qui se continuent avec les parties molles en avant et en arrière, de manière à former deux voiles quadrilatères en forme de pont, mobiles latéralement et pouvant se réunir par leurs bords internes." Deux observations assorties de commentaires sont rapportées. Baizeau insiste sur l'importance de la vitalité des tissus et sur l'avantage de sa méthode à double pont qui évite le tiraillement des lambeaux. Langenbeck, de Berlin, rapporta une méthode similaire en 1860, mais les observations de Baizeau furent rapportées pour la première fois en 1858. Ce procédé de palatoplastie prit en France le nom de procédé de Baizeau-Langenbeck, et en Allemagne de procédé de Langenbeck.
