Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Thus. One of the very earliest appearances in book form of the Teenie Weenies, a community of diminutive characters who lived under a rose bush. First introduced in a 1914 comic strip in the Chicago Tribune, which ran there intermittently over the next half century, the Teenie Weenies… were inspired by Palmer Cox's Brownies, but their stories were written in prose rather than verse. This is one of the first published as an educational primer in book form for elementary school beginning readers. From 1923, it is a FIRST EDTIION, unknown printing, in 128 pages with colored illustrations throughout by the author. With olive green cloth-covered boards, decorated with a frog jumping over a Teenie Winnie on front & orange & black lettering to front & spine, this small 8vo (5.75" x 7.75") is in VG condition: very clean with the occasional spot of smudge, a few darker spots in early pages. Pages are creamy white with mild tanning, completely unmarked save for former owner's name & address in pencil in the "This Book Belongs To" box inside front cover (we never erase these in tribute to those young readers from long ago), Binding strong & straight, hinges secure. Exterior shows slight fading/bleaching to upper-outer corners of both front & rear board & slight corner bumping all around. A sturdy, well-preserved copy of this early reader! No DJ, as issued. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, Weekends & holidays ship very next business day. Donahey, William (illustrator).
