The classification of the various arts in this book is very different from the one in comparative Art and a little different from the one in Art and Man. This is the result of evolution. As we have learned more the subject has changed and expanded. But the matter is so involved that at best any classification must be more or less a makeshift. Two of the terms made use of in this book need explanation. one is the term "art."Art" of course includes literature and music. But these are not referred to here. "Art"is employed in this work in a strictly limited sense, to cover the arts of space: sculpture, architecture, drawing, painting, etching, etc. The other term is "Amerind."This was invented by some one Major Powell. About the Author:-Edwin Swift Balch was born in 1856 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the distinguished lawyer Thomas Balch. He was educated in France and Germany and studied at Harvard University. Although qualified as a lawyer, Balch chose to travel around the world and became an authority on polar history and exploration. Between 1909 and 1910, Balch served as chairman of the Committee on South Polar Exploration. He was appointed president of the Philadelphia Geographical Society and was a fellow of the American Geographical Society. He died in 1927. The Title 'ARTS OF THE WORLD: Comparative Art Studies written/authored/edited by EDWIN SWIFT BALCH, EUGENIA MACFARLANE BALCH', published in the year 2022.
