Contact seller5-star sellerThis is a two-volume set of Modern Ophthalmology by James Moores Ball, an influential early 20th-century ophthalmologist known for his contributions to clinical eye surgery and anatomical teaching. The work is a comprehensive medical reference covering ocular anatomy, physiology, surgical procedures, pathology, and diagnostic me…thods. Volume I (1904) contains 417 text illustrations and numerous figures across 21 colored plates, while the later Volume II (1927 â" Sixth Edition, Revised and Enlarged)** significantly expands the material with 624 illustrations and 24 color plates, many showing retinal disease, surgical techniques, and anatomical diagrams. The text is designed for students and physicians, offering detailed instructions for cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, otolaryngologic relations, examination of the eye, and optic nerve disorders. Both volumes contain abundant technical illustrations including instrumentation diagrams, surgical step breakdowns, retinal drawings, ocular cross-sections, and pathology plates. Volume I contains the bookplate of Dr. E. C. Rivers, suggesting professional provenance, and Volume II bears the ownership stamp of The Medical Society of the City & County of Denver, indicating institutional use. A visually rich resource for collectors of antique medical books, ophthalmology history, or early surgical textsâ"with strong reference and display value. Condition & Binding:ÂBoth volumes are complete, but show signs of prior medical/institutional use. Original cloth bindings remain intact, but include rubbing, edge wear, slight fraying, and spine fade consistent with age. Volume I contains a bookplate (Dr. E. C. Rivers), while Volume II retains a library stamp on the title page. Pages are generally clean with age toning; some plates show light offsetting. Hinges secure, text fully readable, illustrations sharp and well-preservedâ"particularly the diagnostic and surgical diagrams. Overall- good.
