American third edition - two volumes bound within a single book. Full title - A TREATISE OF EQUITY. WITH THE ADDITION OF MARGINAL REFERENCES AND NOTES, BY JOHN FONBLANQUE, ESQ. BARRISTER AT LAW. THIRD AMERICAN EDITION: WITH REFERENCES TO AMERICAN CHANCERY DECISIONS, AND ADDITIONAL NOTES, BY ANTONY LAUSSAT, OF THE PHILADELPHIA BAR. TWO VOLUMES IN ONE. VOL. I. and VOL. II. (Spine title: "Fonblanque's Equity.") [4], i-xx, 1-343, [1], 345-755, [1], [4] pages. Hardcover: H 23.5cm x L 14.75cm. Contemporary full calf leather binding; boards well scuffed with bumped and worn corners; spine scuffed with surface chipping/abrasions at edges; spine's dark red title label slightly edge-worn but retains reasonably bright gilt lettering; immediately below title label is past owner's paper slip with signature "T.A. Teasdale" in antiquarian ink. Varied foxing/toning throughout; moisture stains to early leaves; old pencil inscription "[?] Ray | 6,00" on front free endpaper; remnant stub of removed front flyleaf; seems to be missing a rear flyleaf as well; some creased/curled corners. Binding is firm. Two unpaged leaves (i.e. four pages) of publisher John Grigg advertisements at both front and rear. VOLUME I (pages 1-343) has a title page with an 1831 Grigg imprint whereas VOLUME II (pages 345-755) has its own separate title with an 1830 Grigg imprint. ***** Acquired among a collection of nineteenth century law books gathered over years by a 20th century Columbus, Mississippi attorney from various descendants of the picturesque southern city's preeminent antebellum bar. As to the aforementioned paper slip spine signature, the most likely candidate is Thomas A. Teasdale (1838-1923) whose life details elude cursory research. However, his father, Rev. Thomas C. Teasdale (1808-1891), was a nationally known preacher in the mid-1800s and served as pastor of Columbus' First Baptist Church from 1858-1863. Forever memorialized by his evocative funerary statue of a weeping angel at Columbus' Friendship Cemetery, Reverend Teasdale earned renown for his efforts to fund the Mississippi Orphans Home in the last months of the Civil War via a plan to sell Southern cotton in New York, permission for which was accomplished by his long friendships to Confederate President Jefferson Davis and President Abraham Lincoln, both of whose signatures were successfully obtained on documents permitting the transfer (although the confederacy's collapse and Lincoln's assassination ultimately nullified the transaction). ***** Please note that this thick book has an approximate shipping weight of 3.5 pounds (1.58 kg) and may require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail.

Due volumi (22 cm) di (2)-X-449-(15) pp e XXIII-495-(64) pagine. Qualche fioritura sparsa.
