In der Gewichtung dürften sich auch die langen Aufenthalte Exners in Prag und Ungarn niedergeschlagen haben. . Entstehung und Funktionszusammenhang von Exners Valerius Maximus Christianus lassen sich aus den biographischen Daten des noch kaum erforschten Autors annäherungsweise erschließen. Geboren 1576 in Hirschberg (Niederschlesien), besuchte Exner Schulen in Breslau und Sorau sowie die Universität Leipzig. Er hielt sich einige Jahre als Hofagent (Parteienvertreter bei Hof) in Prag auf, wo er 1599 von Kaiser Rudolph II. den Dichterlorbeer empfing, war Hofmeister (Informator) des Prinzen Friedrich Wilhelm von Teschen und später Professor der Geschichte am Gymnasium Schoenaichianum in Beuthen (Oberschlesien). 1624starb er an der Pest. Seine Publikationen umfassen hauptsächlich lateinische Gedichte sowie historische Sammlungen zu didaktischen Zwecken. Er war ein geachtetes Mitglied der Respublica litterarum und stand mit Größen wie Melissus, D. Heinsius, Monau, Dornau und Taubmann in freundschaftlichem Verkehr zit: THESAURUS ERUDITIONIS, Uni Mannheim. - Titel mehrfach gestempelt, etwas gebräunt.
