Condition: New. Idioma/Language: Español. Sor María de Jesús de Ágreda (1602-1664) es la religiosa más conocida del siglo XVII español. Con una formación limitada, construyó su reputación a través de la escritura, fundamentalmente la extensa correspondencia con Felipe IV y una obra mariológica, la 'Mística ciudad de Dios', que f…ue una de las fuentes utilizadas por la Real Academia Española en la documentación del 'Diccionario de Autoridades' y es, desde su publicación, uno de los libros de mujeres con mayor número de ediciones en España y fuera. Su reputación la convirtió en objeto de interés para personajes del alto clero y la nobleza, con muchos de los cuales mantuvo relaciones epistolares. La colección más abundante y prolongada que se conserva es este conjunto de cartas dirigidas a Fernando de Borja (virrey de Aragón y sumiller de corps del príncipe Baltasar Carlos) y su hijo natural Francisco de Borja (capellán de las Descalzas Reales): han sobrevivido 220 epístolas de la monja custodiadas en el convento de las Descalzas, pero ninguna de las que los Borja enviaron a Ágreda. La importancia de esta correspondencia se debe a que sor María estableció con ellos un trato de gran confianza personal. En ella expresa opiniones más francas sobre la situación política y acerca de sus relaciones con Felipe IV, pero también muestra el temor ante la escritura de la 'Mística ciudad de Dios', la necesidad de secreto y una inseguridad permanente acerca de la propia escritura, en definitiva las estrategias de control y autocensura que documentan la eficacia de los mecanismos censores utilizados para controlar el misticismo femenino de la época. *** Nota: Los envíos a España peninsular, Baleares y Canarias se realizan a través de mensajería urgente.
